Northwest Territories and BC High school teachers go to “virtual carb classroom” to learn about glycomics
GlycoNet researchers are hosting a hands-on, virtual workshop for over 20 high school teachers from Northwest Territories and North BC to teach themabout glycomics, the study of carbohydrates (sugars) in humans and animals. The day-long workshop will include lab demonstrations suitable for virtual classrooms and will provide teachers with opportunity to try out some basic experiments and learn about career possibilities in glycomics-related STEM fields.
The teachers then draw on this experience to create resources and activities for use in general science, biology, and chemistry classrooms in their school districts. The workshop is part of GlycoNet’s outreach activities, carried out in partnership with the University of Alberta’s Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education (CMASTE).
