The Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet) is delighted to announce the strengthening of its collaboration with Alberta Innovates Technology Futures (AITF)<\/a>. GlycoNet has recently received an extensive library of carbohydrate compounds from AITF.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to accept the contribution as part of AITF\u2019s ongoing commitment to our glycomics research,\u201d said Elizabeth Nanak, GlycoNet Executive Director. \u201cThe carbohydrate compounds will help diversify our collection and present giant steps towards understanding the effects of carbohydrates (or glycans) on human biological systems.\u201d<\/p>\n

Todd Lowary, GlycoNet Scientific Director, explained, \u201cThese glycans will help accelerate the synthesis of oligosaccharides, defraying some costs associated with making these larger, more complex molecules.\u201d Lowary added, \u201cThe final compounds will be useful in screening experiments, with the ultimate goal of finding new therapeutics.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis contribution from AITF will greatly facilitate GlycoNet in achieving its vision and we look forward to extending our partnership,\u201d said Lowary.<\/p>\n

The collaboration between AITF and GlycoNet was officialised by a three-year funding agreement to enhance GlycoNet\u2019s research and development (R&D)
\nprograms, training and network initiatives.<\/p>\n
