Announcing the release of GlycoNet\u2019s 2016 annual report<\/strong><\/p>\n

EDMONTON (October 3, 2016)\u00ad \u2013 GlycoNet announced today the release of its second annual report. The past fiscal year has been a fantastic period of achievement\u00a0and growth for GlycoNet, a national research network connecting the glycomics research community.<\/p>\n

Glycomics\u2014the study of carbohydrates (or glycans) in the biological functions of cells\u2014is crucial to solving the unmet medical needs of Canadians. Through collaboration with industry, GlycoNet scientists combat chronic diseases, rare genetic diseases, antimicrobials, diabetes and obesity, and develop therapeutic proteins and vaccines.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have evaluated our ongoing projects to understand what truly works best to facilitate our cutting-edge glycomics research, while strengthening our community and expanding our partnerships,\u201d said Dr. Elizabeth Nanak, GlycoNet Executive Director.<\/p>\n

To date, GlycoNet includes 87 network investigators, 67 network partners, 20 international partners and 114 network trainees in 25 institutions across Canada.<\/p>\n

Dr. Todd Lowary, GlycoNet Scientific Director, explained, \u201cAs GlycoNet continues to make new and exciting strides towards delivering solutions to important health issues, we must express our deep appreciation for the support of our partners who generously contribute funding and expertise.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of our directors, executives, network investigators, trainees and staff for helping us to take another step towards improving the lives of Canadians through glycomics,\u201d added Dr. Lowary.<\/p>\n

Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet)<\/strong>\u00a0is a pan-Canadian, multidisciplinary research network aiming to deliver solutions to important health issues and improve the quality of life of Canadians through the study of glycomics. GlycoNet is funded by the\u00a0Networks of Centres of Excellence, a Government of Canada program that supports large-scale, academic-led research networks to build research capacity and accelerate the creation of new knowledge in a specific research area.<\/p>\n
