Year in review: Partnerships to propel glycomics forward

 Posted: 10 December, 2024

In 2024, GlycoNet signed collaborative agreements with three different organizations.

10. Partnerships to propel glycomics and health solutions

As 2024 draws to a close, GlycoNet celebrates new connections made as part of our mission to address major health challenges through glycomics, the study of glycans (sugars). Throughout the year, GlycoNet signed collaborative agreements with CQDM, the NOVA School of Science and Technology in Portugal, and the Australian Glycoscience Society, with each partnership exploring how we can drive innovative research and transformative health solutions together.

Strengthening biopharmaceutical research and development with CQDM

In September, GlycoNet and CQDM announced their collaboration to boost drug discovery and development within Canada. Leveraging their combined expertise in glycomics and biopharmaceutical R&D, GlycoNet and CQDM are exploring opportunities to work together and exchange knowledge and resources supporting research and commercialization. This collaboration aims to support the development of glycomics-based tools and treatments to enhance quality of life for Canadians and address global health challenges.

Enhancing research, training and knowledge exchange with NOVA FCT and GLYCOTwinning

Earlier in May, GlycoNet entered into a partnership with the NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT) in Portugal, which is also home to the capacity-building network GLYCOTwinning. This partnership aims to advance glycomics and glycoscience research and innovation through knowledge exchange, joint research initiatives, and training opportunities for students and researchers in Canada and Portugal.

Enriching networking and training opportunities with the Australian Glycoscience Society

GlycoNet also established a partnership with the Australian Glycoscience Society (AGS) to support each other’s efforts in the development of a broader understanding of glycomics and glycoscience. In addition to cultivating regular interactions between AGS and GlycoNet, this collaboration seeks to share opportunities for networking, training, and knowledge exchange, promoting glycomics and glycoscience internationally.

Our new year’s resolution

Facilitating global exchange of knowledge and expertise in glycomics and glycoscience is essential for devising new solutions to health and sustainability challenges. Together we can build more self-sufficient, sustainable, and thriving communities worldwide.

Looking ahead to 2025, GlycoNet remains dedicated to expanding its collaborative network. One event we’re excited for is Glyco27, jointly hosted with the Canadian Glycomics Symposium during May 25-30, 2025. We look forward to connecting with over 400 participants from around the globe – hope to see you there!
