The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) recently announced on September 3rd that it elected 104 new Fellows this year. One of those is GlycoNet investigator Dr. David Vocadlo, a professor at Simon Fraser University.
Founded in 1882 as Canada’s national academy, the society fosters research and education across the arts, humanities, and sciences. It grants fellowships to esteemed individuals who have made significant contributions in these areas, as chosen by their peers.
Dr. Vocadlo is a renowned chemical biologist who creatively uses chemistry to uncover the biological roles of carbohydrates. His pioneering research has yielded surprising discoveries, driven revision of dominant paradigms, and broadened our understanding of one of nature’s key building blocks. His work is illuminating the roles of carbohydrates in several diseases, including cancer, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s – where his research is being translated to drive commercial development of innovative therapeutics.
On Friday, November 8, 2024, the RSC will induct the 2024 Fellows and Members of the RSC College at a ceremony as part of the Celebration of Excellence and Engagement in Vancouver, British Columbia.
