Dr. Rui Resendes will develop business opportunities and build strategic partnerships to advance Network research priorities
EDMONTON, ALBERTA (July 15, 2020) – The Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Rui Resendes as its new Director of Strategic Partnerships, effective immediately. Resendes will lead GlycoNet’s partnership and business development efforts across Canada, while establishing the growth and legacy strategy of the Network.
Resendes brings GlycoNet over 20 years of experience in business leadership and commercial development, previously serving as the CEO of FireRein Inc., a Canadian clean technology company providing carbohydrate-based firefighting solutions. Prior to joining FireRein, Resendes was the Executive Director of GreenCentre Canada, a Centre of Excellence in Commercialization and Research focusing on translating chemistry breakthroughs into consumer goods, materials, and pharmaceutical sectors. Under his management, GreenCentre Canada successfully secured its seed and legacy funding to continue its commercialization mission. Resendes holds a PhD in chemistry from the University of Toronto with a specialization in advanced materials.
“We are delighted that Rui has joined GlycoNet,” Dr. Elizabeth Nanak, Executive Director at GlycoNet, said in a statement. “Building commercialization capacity and marketplace innovation in glycomics is incredibly important and central to GlycoNet’s mission. We are thrilled to have Rui’s talents and expertise round out our team.”
“Rui’s demonstrated understanding of market needs, along with his vast experience in technology commercialization over the past 20 years will accelerate GlycoNet’s traverse through the gap between academic literature and technology innovations,” said Dr. Todd Lowary, Scientific Director at GlycoNet. “His passion for ‘moving the needle’ and bringing industry insights into the overall decision-making process will help us greatly as we continue on our current growth pattern and increase GlycoNet’s visibility with new and existing partners.”
