Gour Chand Daskhan, a carbohydrate chemist, is a post-doctoral researcher in Prof. Christopher W Cairo’s group in the Department of Chemistry, University of Alberta. He completed his Ph.D. in January, 2013 in the area of synthetic carbohydrate chemistry under the supervision of Professor N. Jayaraman, Department of Organic Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. His graduate study focused on the synthesis of C-2 and C-4 branched Carbohydrates, including oligosaccharides with expanded glycosidic linkage at C-4, and 2-deoxy-2-C-alkyl glycopyranosides. After that he joined as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the group of Professor Olivier Renaudet, Department of Molecular Chemistry, University Grenoble-Aples, France. His research work was focused on the synthesis of cyclopeptide based homo- and hetero functionalized multivalent glycoclusters.
His current research is centered on the development of bio-conjugation strategies for the construction of multivalent glycoconjugates (human blood group ABO-antigens and sialoglycans) and their applications in immunology and in organ transplantation. His future research interests include: (i) organic synthesis, methodology development and oligosaccharides synthesis; (ii) synthesis of tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens and vaccines against cancer and (iii) synthesis and applications of carbohydrate-based macrocyclic hosts.
