Where do you work, what is your position and who is your supervisor?
I am a master’s student under the supervision of Dr. Warren Wakarchuk and Dr. Bryan Koivisto at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario.
Which project do you work on?
I work on developing and characterizing fluorescent mannose- and sialic acid-based chemical probes for lectin discovery and enzyme studies.
If you have previously attended the AGM/Symposium, what was your experience?
Yes, I have been lucky enough to attend the AGM/Symposium both in 2018 and 2019, which I have thoroughly enjoyed! It gave me the opportunity to showcase my work, meet and network with people in the same field as well as learn about all the amazing research GlycoNet is involved with!
Where do you see yourself in the future?
In the future, I would love to work in the pharmaceutical industry, specifically in the drug discovery and development sector.
What is your favourite quote?
“The biggest risk is not taking any risk… In a world that is changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.” – Mark Zuckerberg
Is there anything interesting that you would like to share about yourself, such as any sports that you enjoy, talents you have, and/or what you do in your spare time?
Besides research, which I really enjoy, I also love to cook! I enjoy trying out new recipes and techniques as well as developing my own. I also enjoy outdoor activities whether it be jet skiing, ATVing, white water rafting, zip-ling, which I have previously all done. On my bucket list this year is to try the CN Tower edge walk!
