For Immediate Release
EDMONTON, ALBERTA (September 19, 2024) – GlycoNet and CQDM are proud to announce they have entered an agreement to collaborate on advancing drug discovery and development in Canada.
This partnership will harness both organizations’ expertise and resources—notably in glycomics (the study of carbohydrates or sugars) and multi-stakeholder collaborative biopharmaceutical R&D—to make significant contributions to improving health for Canadians.
“Collaborating with CQDM opens up exciting possibilities for advancing glycomics research and delivering innovative technologies and treatments that enhance quality of life for Canadians,” said Dr. Elizabeth Nanak, CEO, GlycoNet. “By combining expertise and resources, we can explore new frontiers in drug discovery and development, leading to improved health-care options.”
GlycoNet and CQDM will explore opportunities to collaborate on projects to develop glycomics-based tools, technologies, and therapeutics. They will also exchange knowledge and resources to support shared goals in research and commercialization.
“This partnership aligns perfectly with our mission to accelerate biopharmaceutical research to deliver safer, more effective drugs,” said Diane Gosselin, President and CEO of CQDM. “Working together with GlycoNet, we are confident that our joint efforts will yield valuable insights and breakthroughs that will benefit the drug development field.”
Together, GlycoNet and CQDM look forward to expanding the boundaries of glycomics and biopharmaceutical research while bringing forward new solutions to address global health challenges.
About GlycoNet
GlycoNet is a pan-Canadian research network consisting of over 190 researchers in 36 institutions across the country participating in over 150 funded projects. GlycoNet investigators use the study of carbohydrates (sugars) in living cells to find solutions to unmet health needs through the development of tools, drugs, vaccines and diagnostics. Taking a One-Health approach that considers the connections among human, animal and environmental health, GlycoNet is advancing research, innovation and training in glycomics to improve quality of life for Canadians. Under the network, GlycoNet Integrated Services (GIS) operates as a national platform of glycomics services. GlycoNet and GIS together provide one-stop access to glycomics tools, specialized expertise, consulting, and collaborative opportunities to academia and industry, both nationally and internationally. GlycoNet is also a leader in training the next generation of glyco-scientists and promoting collaboration and advancement in glycomics research. GlycoNet is supported in part through the Government of Canada’s Strategic Science Fund. Learn more on our website: glyconet.ca.
